To determine the most potent bioelectrical impedance analysis(BIA) marker of malnutrition and to adjust its application to hemodialysis(HD) patients, t h i s s t u d y measured the fol lowing: ICW , ECW , TBW , FFMI (FFM/height2), reactance, resistance and PA by utilizing InBody S10 in 99 maintenance HD patients in Lithuania, whose mean age was 58.7±14.38y, the nutritional status was examined using SGA (Subjective Global Assessment), serum albumin and BMI. According to SGA assessment, 57.6% of the patients were in well nourished, 28.3% were in moderatly malnourished status and 14.1% were in severely malnourished, and mean PA was 4.88±1.08 ̊ in all subjects. According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis result, the PA was the most potent predictor of the SGA-defined malnutrition (OR = 3.69, p <0.002) (Table 2). According to the PA value, less than 5th percentile was 27.3%, lower than 50th percentile was 85.9%; and moderately malnourished group belonged to <25th percentile (AUC=0.7, p<0.01), severe malnutrition status group belonged to <15th percentile (AUC=0.74, p<0.005). The PA measured by the BIA is the most accurate and appropriate method of nutritional evaluation . Furthermore, despite excess fluid, age and gender being important limitations in the application of BIA, PA can be adjusted for these factors and used accordingly.
